Cabinets & Countertops — Where Function Meets Style

Now that we’ve got your kitchen layout dialed in, let’s talk about two of the biggest decisions in any kitchen remodel: cabinets and countertops. These elements take up the most visual real estate and have the biggest impact on both style and functionality.

Cabinets: Your Kitchen’s Foundation

Cabinetry sets the tone for your kitchen. Are you after a sleek, modern look? Go for flat-panel cabinets in a matte finish. More of a timeless, classic vibe? Shaker cabinets in white or soft greige never go out of style.

But style is just one side of the equation. Think about function too:

  • Soft-close drawers and doors are non-negotiable in my book.

  • Built-in organizers like spice pull-outs, tray dividers, and drawer inserts make a huge difference in everyday use.

  • Two-tone cabinetry (like darker lowers and lighter uppers) can add depth and visual interest without overwhelming the space.

Countertops: Beauty + Durability

Your countertop needs to handle daily life — spills, heat, and everything in between — and still look stunning.

Here are my go-to choices:

  • Quartz: Low-maintenance, stain-resistant, and available in a wide variety of colors and patterns. Great for families.

  • Natural stone (like marble or granite): Unmatched beauty, but be prepared for a little upkeep.

  • Butcher block or wood tops: Warm and inviting, perfect for islands or accent areas.

I always encourage clients to bring samples home and look at them in their own lighting — finishes can look very different in natural vs. artificial light.

Now that we’ve nailed the layout and selected the key materials, the next step is tying it all together with installation and finishing touches.
