DIY Interior Design Made Easy: Your Mood Board, Shopping List, and Paint Samples

Once my client has approved the mood board, it’s time to get into the nitty-gritty details. One of the things I love about offering a DIY design option is that I can provide clients with all the tools and guidance they need to bring their vision to life on their own.

Along with the mood board, I create a detailed list of where to purchase each piece. This includes everything from the furniture to the lighting fixtures to the throw pillows. I make sure to include links to trusted retailers and even offer suggestions for custom pieces, depending on the client’s budget and preferences. This way, the client can feel confident about the purchasing process and know exactly where to go to get everything they need.

But that’s not all.

Another crucial aspect of the DIY design process is the paint colors. Choosing the perfect paint color can be a challenge—lighting changes everything! That’s why I work with Samplize, a company that provides large, peel-and-stick paint samples. I’ll send my clients these samples in different colors so they can see how each one looks in their space at various times of the day. They can test the colors in different lighting before making a final decision. It’s a great way to avoid the dreaded “buyer’s remorse” that often comes with picking the wrong color.
