As an interior designer, one of the most exciting parts of the job is working with clients to transform their spaces. When I take on a new interior design project, I always start by taking a close look at what’s currently in the home. This is a crucial step that allows me to understand the unique character of the space before jumping into any redesign.
I begin by assessing what’s already there—the furniture, the layout, the colors, the textures—and, most importantly, how everything makes the client feel. I want to get a true sense of the home's flow, functionality, and overall vibe. Some things will stay, some will go, and some may be reworked, but this initial assessment gives me the foundation I need to create a space that feels fresh but still familiar.
Of course, I’m not just looking at the physical space—I’m listening closely to what my client wants. Each project is unique because each person has different preferences, lifestyles, and visions. Whether they’re looking for a complete overhaul or just some updates, understanding their needs, desires, and goals is key. Do they want a cozy, inviting space? Or maybe something modern and bold? I take all of that into consideration as I start building my ideas.
Once I’ve gathered all the necessary information from both the space and the client, I begin working on the next step—creating a mood board. Stay tuned for the next post, where I'll dive deeper into how I use mood boards to bring the design vision to life!
