The Post Holiday Tornado

The holidays are over. We had a great time celebrating with family, but now we’re faced with the aftermath: the decorations come down, the gifts are unpacked, and the remnants of parties and gatherings linger. If your home feels like it’s been through a tornado (mine certainly has), it’s time to reclaim your space and get it back to a place of calm and order. I don't function well in a mess and it's really showing lately.
One of the most powerful ways to start the new year off right is by tidying up your home. When you clear away the holiday clutter, you’re not just organizing your physical space — you’re creating a mental and emotional reset too. A clean, organized environment can immediately lift your mood, reduce stress, and create room for new ideas and inspiration. Plus, it’ll help you feel more motivated to tackle the other areas of your home that need some love.
So, how can we get started? Here are a few simple tips to tidy up and bring peace back to your home after the hustle and bustle of the holidays.
Declutter First, Clean Later
The key to a successful post-holiday tidy is to start by decluttering. Take a moment to go through any leftover decorations, wrapping paper, or other seasonal items you no longer need. Consider donating or recycling what you don’t plan to use next year. Remember, clutter is not just physical; it can also be emotional. Letting go of items that no longer serve a purpose will help create a clearer, lighter space. Trust me- the less stuff, the better!
Once the clutter is gone, then it’s time to deep clean. Wipe down surfaces, dust off shelves, and vacuum those little corners that have been neglected. The freshness of a clean home is invigorating — and it’s the perfect way to start the new year.
I'm following @ashleyrosereeves on Instagram. She is doing a "Homes That Heal Challenge" and I'm loving it. She's providing a day by day to do list for how to make this all more attainable. I'm jumping on the decluttering train and getting rid of more stuff this year!
